Kitchen Extractor Fans

Kitchen extractor fans are mechanical ventilation fans that remove steam, cooking odours and airborne grease from a kitchen, either through a wall or window or via ducting to outside. We stock the Airflow iCON 30 wall or window fan with automatic iris shutter and the Airflow Aventa AV100T, a 4-inch mixed-flow in-line fan with timer for ducted runs.

Both suit domestic kitchens, utility rooms and small staff kitchens. Order on a trade account at trade prices, and receive in-stock items the next working day across NI and ROI when you order by 5pm on a weekday.

How to choose a kitchen extractor fan

Cooking releases a surprising amount of moisture, heat and grease into the air. Without effective extraction this ends up as condensation on windows, mould in corners and sticky residue on surfaces. A properly sized fan, positioned close to the source, keeps the kitchen fresher and protects the building.

Wall fans and in-line fans

  • Wall or window fans such as the Airflow iCON 30 mount directly on an outside wall or window, giving a short, efficient path for air. The auto-iris shutter closes when the fan stops, cutting draughts.
  • In-line fans such as the Airflow Aventa AV100T sit within the ducting, often in a ceiling void, so the fan is out of sight and further from the room, reducing noise. The integral timer keeps it running after use.

Extract rates and regulations

Building regulations set minimum extract rates for kitchens, which vary depending on whether the fan sits next to the hob or elsewhere in the room, and on which jurisdiction you are working in. Northern Ireland, the Republic and Great Britain each have their own guidance, so check the current requirements and the fan's performance data before specifying.

Installation tips

Keep duct runs as short and straight as possible, since bends and long lengths reduce airflow. Use rigid ducting where you can, insulate ducts that pass through cold lofts to stop condensation forming inside them, and terminate with a suitable grille or gravity shutter; all are available in our fan accessories. Fans are typically supplied via a fused spur with a local isolator; follow the manufacturer's wiring diagram and current wiring regulations. For bathroom and toilet models, browse the full extractor fan range, and for whole-house air movement see positive input ventilation.
