Grommet Strip

Grommet strip is a flexible edge protector that fits over sharp sheet metal edges, cut-outs and slots so cables passing over them are not cut or abraded. Our range includes a grommet strip for panel thicknesses of 1.0 to 1.6mm, supplied in 10 metre packs and cut to length on site.

The section also lists Cablecraft square section beading in a 25m roll and a Tass 127mm standard power grommet for single 13A power in floor installations. All are available at trade pricing, and stock orders placed before 5pm arrive the next working day throughout NI and the Republic.

How to choose and fit grommet strip

Any time a cable passes through or across a cut edge in metal, there is a risk of the insulation being damaged by vibration or movement. Grommet strip is a simple way of covering that edge.

Where grommet strip is used

  • Cut-outs and knockouts in metal enclosures, control panels and distribution boards
  • Slots and openings in steel trunking and cable tray
  • Machinery guards, cabinets and vehicle or plant panels
  • Irregular openings where a standard round grommet will not fit

Sizing

Grommet strip is sized by the thickness of the material it grips, not the cable size. A strip for 1.0 to 1.6mm suits common sheet steel thicknesses used in enclosures and trunking. Measure the edge before ordering: too thin a strip will not push on, and too thick a strip will not hold. For round holes, PVC grommets in fixed sizes are often quicker.

Fitting tips

Deburr the edge first, then push the strip on by hand, working around corners in one piece where possible. Cut cleanly with snips so the ends meet without gaps. On tight curves, small relief cuts in the strip can help it follow the shape.

Other items in this section

Square section beading is used to create neat edging or cover small gaps on surface installations. The Tass power grommet fits a 127mm hole in floors or desks and provides a single 13A outlet, a tidy option alongside our floor boxes range.
