Ladders & Platforms
Ladders and work platforms provide safe, stable access for working at height, and fibreglass models are the preferred choice for electrical work because the stiles do not conduct electricity. The range covers fibreglass step ladders from four to seven treads, including Deligo models, Jefferson Tools fibreglass platform ladders with handrails, the Jefferson Tools AS5 multi-purpose ladder and 300mm and 600mm wide work platforms.
Account holders buy at trade prices, and in-stock access equipment ordered before 5pm on a working day is delivered next day across NI and ROI.
How to choose the right ladder or platform
Most falls from height in construction involve low-level work, so choosing the right access equipment for the task is as important for short jobs as for long ones.
Types of access equipment
- Fibreglass step ladders – free-standing, non-conductive stiles; choose tread count by the height you need to reach.
- Platform ladders with handrails – a larger standing platform with guardrails for longer tasks such as fitting luminaires, giving both hands free with more support.
- Multi-purpose ladders – configurable as a step ladder, leaning ladder or stairwell ladder for varied sites.
- Work platforms – low hop-up platforms in aluminium or fibreglass for ceiling-level work in rooms with standard heights.
What to check
Look for the relevant ladder standard marking and the professional or trade classification, the maximum user load and the closed and working heights. For electrical work, fibreglass is generally preferred over aluminium near live equipment or overhead conductors. Consider weight and footprint if you are carrying ladders through finished buildings.
Safe use
Carry out a pre-use check every time: stiles, treads, feet, locking bars and any damage. Set up on firm, level ground, keep three points of contact where possible, do not overreach and never stand on the top tread unless the design allows it. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and current working at height regulations, and record regular detailed inspections.
