Ties & Bases
Cable ties are single-use fasteners that bundle and secure cables, while cable tie bases and plugs give those ties a fixing point on walls, panels and trays. Our range includes nylon ties in black and white from 100x2.5mm up to 370x7.8mm, sold in packs of 100.
For harsh or hygienic environments there are Unicrimp stainless steel roller ball and ball lock ties from 150mm to 520mm. Self-adhesive 4-way bases in 21x21mm and 28x28mm, plus 8mm cable tie plugs, complete the range. Buy on a trade account and get next working day delivery on stock lines in NI and ROI.
How to choose cable ties and bases
Cable ties look simple, but length, width, material and colour all affect how well a bundle stays secure over time. Here is how to pick the right ones for the job.
Nylon or stainless steel
- Nylon ties are the everyday choice for panels, containment and general cable dressing. They are light, fast to fit and available in a wide range of sizes.
- Stainless steel ties resist heat, chemicals and weather, making them suitable for outdoor, industrial and food-processing environments, and for fixing cables to cable tray and basket.
Length, width and colour
Length determines the maximum bundle diameter, so allow enough tail to thread and tension the tie. Width relates to strength: a 2.5mm tie is fine for small looms, whereas 4.8mm and 7.8mm ties hold heavier bundles. Black nylon ties are generally preferred outdoors because the black pigment helps with UV resistance, while white ties suit internal, visible installations. Check each product's specification for outdoor suitability.
Fixing ties in place
Self-adhesive tie bases stick to clean, smooth surfaces such as panel interiors and trunking, giving a point to anchor ties. For masonry, an 8mm cable tie plug pushes into a drilled hole to hold the tie securely. On rough or dusty surfaces, screw-fixed bases or cable clips may be the better choice.
Good practice
Do not overtighten ties on data and fire-rated cables, as crushing the sheath can affect performance. Trim tails flush with a proper cutting tool from our pliers and cutters range so no sharp edges remain. Where cables must stay supported in a fire, nylon ties alone are not enough, so check current wiring regulations for fire-resistant support requirements.
