Fire Rated Downlights
Fire rated downlights are recessed ceiling lights designed to help maintain the fire resistance of a ceiling when holes are cut for lighting. Our range is led by Kosnic, including the Mauna, Erta and Telica families, with integrated LED and GU10 versions, colour temperature switchable, dimmable, tilt, anti-glare and IP65 options, plus matching bezels and sensors.
Choose the fire rating, cut-out size and IP rating your ceiling needs, then pick a finish. Trade account holders get trade pricing, and in-stock orders placed by 5pm Monday to Friday arrive next working day across NI and ROI.
How to choose fire rated downlights
Cutting holes in a plasterboard ceiling can weaken its fire resistance. Fire rated downlights are tested to help keep that protection in place, which matters most in ceilings that separate floors or form part of an escape route.
What to check
- Fire rating: check the fitting is tested for the rating the ceiling needs (commonly 30, 60 or 90 minutes) and fitted as the manufacturer instructs.
- Integrated LED or GU10: integrated LED fittings are compact and efficient; GU10 versions let you change the lamp and its colour later.
- IP rating: choose IP65 for bathroom zones and other damp areas.
- Switchable CCT and wattage: one fitting can cover warm white to daylight, so you carry less stock.
- Insulation: check whether the fitting can be covered by loft insulation.
Installation tips
Measure the cut-out and void depth before ordering, use a compatible LED dimmer if dimming, and follow the manufacturer's instructions and current building and wiring regulations. Isolate the circuit before working.
