Fixing Band

Fixing band, also called all-round banding, is a perforated strip that can be wrapped, cut and screwed to support pipes, conduit, ductwork and cables from walls, joists and steelwork. We stock Unicrimp all-round banding in 12mm width and 10 metre rolls, in red and black.

The regularly spaced holes let you fix at any point and bolt the band back on itself to form loops and hangers. It suits domestic, commercial and agricultural jobs where a quick, adjustable support is needed. Trade prices apply on account, and in-stock rolls ordered by 5pm are delivered next working day to NI and ROI.

How to use fixing band effectively

Fixing band is one of the most adaptable supports in an electrician's or installer's kit. Because it comes on a roll and can be cut to any length, it works where a fixed-size clip or bracket does not.

Common applications

  • Hanging plastic conduit or pipe from joists and roof timbers
  • Supporting flexible ducting from extract fans and ventilation units
  • Strapping cables to steelwork where drilling is not practical
  • Forming temporary or adjustable supports during first fix

Choosing and fitting

The 12mm width suits light to moderate loads such as conduit, small pipes and ducting. For heavier loads, a dedicated bracket, clip or strut support is usually a better choice. To fit, cut a length with snips, wrap it around the item, and secure both ends to the structure with suitable screws, or bolt the band through two aligned holes using items from our nuts, bolts and washers range. Avoid overtightening around plastic pipe or cable so it is not deformed.

Colours and identification

Red and black banding can help distinguish between services, such as marking fire alarm or emergency circuits, or simply blend in with the surroundings. Check any project specification for colour requirements on specific systems.

Safety considerations

Cut edges can be sharp, so wear gloves and deburr ends where people or cables may come into contact with them. Where cables must remain supported in a fire, check current wiring regulations to confirm whether the banding material meets the requirement, or use metal fire-rated supports instead.
