How to choose the right LED panel

LED panels are the go-to replacement for fluorescent modular fittings in grid ceilings. Choosing well comes down to size, construction, output and the ceiling you are fixing to.

Panel types and sizes

  • 600x600 panels fit standard 600mm ceiling grids and are the most common office and classroom choice.
  • 1200x600 and 1200x300 panels suit larger grids and corridors.
  • Backlit panels, such as Kosnic Alden, place the LEDs behind the diffuser for even light.
  • IP65 panels, such as the Alden 4 Pro, suit kitchens, washrooms and other damp areas.
  • Surface mount frames let panels be fitted to plasterboard or concrete ceilings.

What to check

Confirm the grid size and ceiling type before ordering, as some ceilings use slightly different tile dimensions. In offices and classrooms where people work at screens, look at the glare rating and consider an anti-glare diffuser. CCT and wattage-switchable panels give flexibility on site, while 4000K remains a popular choice for workplaces. If you need emergency lighting, check whether the panel accepts an emergency module or has an emergency version, and see our emergency lighting range for dedicated fittings. For rooms with echo problems, acoustic lighting combines light with sound absorption.

Installation tips

Support panels on the grid or with suspension or frame kits as the manufacturer instructs, and avoid relying on the ceiling tiles to carry the weight. Keep the driver accessible above the ceiling and use the supplied connectors. For dimming or presence control, choose a compatible driver or sensor from our controls and drivers range, and follow current wiring regulations.
