Securi-Flex
Securi-Flex produces data, security and communications cable for installers. Our Securi-Flex stock includes CAT5 4 pair FTP network cable on a 305m box, a foil-screened twisted pair cable used for Ethernet, CCTV and structured data runs where interference is a concern.
Trade customers buy at trade prices. Order in-stock boxes before 5pm on a weekday and we deliver next working day across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Choosing CAT5 FTP network cable
Category 5 cable carries Ethernet data over four twisted pairs. The FTP (foiled twisted pair) construction adds an overall foil screen, which helps reduce interference from nearby power cables, motors and fluorescent fittings.
FTP or UTP?
- FTP – screened, so it suits industrial units, plant rooms and runs that share containment with mains cable. The screen should be earthed correctly via screened connectors and patch panels.
- UTP – unscreened, lighter and quicker to terminate, widely used in offices and homes.
Planning the installation
Keep individual permanent links within the standard 90m channel guideline, respect the minimum bend radius, and avoid over-tightening cable ties, which can deform the pairs. Maintain separation from power circuits where possible and follow current wiring regulations and the relevant cabling standards. A 305m box lets you pull several runs without joints, and the box dispenser helps prevent kinks as the cable is drawn out.
Finish the job with our data networking tools for termination and testing, and patch panels and comms cabinets. Browse more options in our network cable category.
