Choosing a 45A double pole switch
A 45 amp double pole switch isolates high-current appliances such as electric cookers and showers. The tall plate format leaves room for a large rocker and a neon indicator.
Key features
- Double pole - disconnects both line and neutral for safe isolation.
- Neon indicator - shows when the circuit is live.
- Tall plate - suits a tall back box; check box depth and dimensions.
- Polished chrome finish - matches modern chrome taps, handles and fittings.
Matching the circuit
The switch rating must suit the appliance and circuit design. Check the cooker or shower manufacturer's requirements and current wiring regulations, and size cable and protective devices accordingly. Showers usually need the switch outside the bathroom zones or a ceiling pull switch, so plan the switch position early in the job, before plastering.
Finishing touches
Decorative metal plates show marks during fitting, so keep the protective film on until the job is complete. Handle chrome plates by the edges, tighten screws gently to avoid cracking the finish, and wipe away fingerprints with a soft dry cloth. Use a correctly sized PVC or galvanised back box, and complete the room with matching polished chrome switches and sockets. See all our wiring accessories for other options.
