Plastic Trunking

Plastic trunking is PVC cable enclosure with a clip-on lid, used to route and protect cables on wall and ceiling surfaces where chasing in is not practical. Our range covers self adhesive mini trunking in 25 x 16mm and 40 x 25mm, maxi trunking in 50 x 50mm, 50 x 75mm and 100 x 50mm, and PEMCO PVC trunking in 75 x 75mm and 100 x 100mm.

Matching angles, tees, couplers, end caps and stop ends are stocked too. Trade pricing is available, and in-stock items ordered by 5pm on a weekday are with you the next working day in NI or ROI.

How to choose plastic trunking

PVC trunking is quick to fit, easy to cut and gives a clean finish for surface wiring in homes, offices, shops and schools. Choosing the right size and fittings first time avoids awkward joints later.

Mini vs maxi trunking

  • Mini trunking (25 x 16mm, 40 x 25mm) – for one or a few cables, such as spurs to a socket, a light switch drop or data cables along skirting. Self adhesive backing makes it quick to fit on clean, smooth surfaces.
  • Maxi trunking (50 x 50mm and larger) – for multiple circuits, distribution runs and commercial installations, usually screw-fixed.

Using the right fittings

Flat angles, internal and external angles and flat tees give neat changes of direction without mitring. End caps and stop ends finish runs tidily, and couplers hide joints between lengths. Fittings should match the size and profile of the trunking, so order them in the same size as your lengths.

Joining and fixing tips

Stagger lid joints so they do not line up with base joints, giving a stronger, neater run. Screw-fix maxi trunking as well as or instead of relying on adhesive, especially on ceilings and rough surfaces, using suitable rawl plugs and screws. Where power and data share a route, use segregated trunking or separate runs, or consider 3 compartment dado trunking. For tougher mechanical protection, choose galvanised steel trunking.

Safety considerations

PVC trunking should not be the only support for cables in escape routes, as it can fail in a fire; current wiring regulations require cables to be supported against premature collapse, so add fire-resistant fixings where needed. Don't overfill trunking, and leave room for heat dissipation.
