Choosing levels, tapes and draw tapes

Accurate setting out is what makes sockets line up, trunking run true and downlights sit in neat rows. This small range covers the measuring basics plus the draw tapes that make cable pulling easier.

Tape measures

A 5m tape covers most room-scale work and fits a pocket or belt. Look for a clear, readable blade, a solid lock and a hook that is true for both inside and outside measurements. Soft-grip cases, such as the C.K Softech, help on cold sites.

Spirit levels

A pocket level around 200mm long is ideal for setting accessories, back boxes and small enclosures. For long runs of trunking, tray or lighting, a longer level or laser line is often used alongside it. Check the vial accuracy occasionally by reading the level, turning it end to end and reading again on the same surface.

Draw tapes

  • SpiraFLEX draw tapes – spiral-wound tapes in 10m, 20m and 30m lengths that push through conduit and bends.
  • Nylon draw tape – 3mm nylon, flexible and light for general cable pulling.
  • Choosing length – pick a tape longer than your longest run between draw-in points.

Attach cables securely and stagger the ends so the bundle passes smoothly through bends. Do not overfill the conduit; check capacity tables in the containment manufacturer's guidance or current wiring regulations.
