Angle Grinders

Angle grinders are handheld power tools that spin an abrasive or diamond disc at high speed to cut, grind and finish metal, masonry and tile. Electricians use them for trimming strut, cable tray, threaded rod and conduit, and for chasing walls with the right disc. This range is being added now.

How to choose the right angle grinder

Angle grinders vary in disc size, power source and safety features. Picking the correct combination makes cutting faster and safer.

Disc size

  • 115mm - light and easy to control, good for cutting strut, rod and small sections.
  • 125mm - the most popular all-rounder for site work.
  • 230mm - deeper cuts in masonry and heavier steel, but heavier and harder to handle.

Corded, cordless or 110V

Cordless grinders are convenient for quick cuts, while corded models suit long cutting sessions. On UK and Irish construction sites, 110V tools run from a transformer are common practice, so check site rules before choosing a 230V model.

Safety features worth having

  • Soft start to reduce kick on start-up.
  • Anti-restart protection after a power cut.
  • Adjustable guard and side handle.
  • Brake or overload protection on some models.

Always use the correct disc for the material and never exceed the disc's rated speed. Stock up on holesaws and cutting discs, and wear eye, ear and hand protection from our workwear and safety range. Read the manufacturer instructions before use.
