Grid Modules

Grid modules are individual switch, dimmer, fuse and outlet modules that clip into a grid frame behind a faceplate, letting you build a custom multi-gang plate from exactly the functions you need. They are widely used to isolate kitchen appliances from a single plate above the worktop.

The range includes Zahler grid plates from 1 to 8 apertures, 20A switch, intermediate, retractive and key modules, fuse holders, flex outlets and LED dimmers, plus Selectric Kinetic RF receivers. Order in-stock lines before 5pm for next working day delivery across NI and ROI, at trade prices on account.

How to build the right grid switch plate

Grid systems are made up of three parts: a faceplate in the finish you want, a mounting frame (grid) that holds the modules, and the modules themselves. Plan all three together so everything fits the back box and the job.

Plan the apertures

Count the functions you need first, then pick a plate size. A 2 gang plate typically holds 2 to 4 apertures and a 4 gang plate 6 or 8, while data plates take RJ45 and similar modules. Add a blanking module to fill any unused aperture neatly, and leave spare positions where you expect future appliances.

Common module types

  • 20A SP and DP switches: for isolating fridges, dishwashers, washing machines and extract fans
  • Intermediate and 2 way modules: for multi-point lighting control
  • Retractive (press) modules: momentary switches for lighting control systems and similar uses
  • Fuse holder and flex outlet modules: for fused appliance connections
  • Key switches: including emergency lighting test keys to prevent unauthorised use
  • LED dimmers and fan isolators: for lighting control and isolating extract fans

Installation and compliance

Make sure modules, grid frame and plate are compatible, as grid systems vary between manufacturers. Label each module with the appliance it controls so users can isolate the right one quickly. Appliance isolation, accessibility and labelling should follow current wiring regulations and the appliance manufacturer's instructions, and the back box must be deep enough for the modules and cables. For matching finishes, see decorative metal switches and sockets, use metal clad grid faceplates in plant rooms, or add wireless control with Selectric Kinetic.
