Meteor’s range of NYYJ cable is a plain annealed copper conductor with PVC insulation and is PVC sheathed black 1000 volt grade to VDE 02717 and IEC60502 (where applicable). This NYY-J cable is suitable for use in open-air, underground, indoors, and in cable ducts.

Product Information
NYY-J 3 x 2.5mm² is a PVC-insulated, PVC-sheathed power cable rated 0.6/1kV, sold by the metre and cut to the length you need. It is made to the German VDE 0276-603 (HD 603) specification and is widely used for fixed power and control wiring in industrial plant, buildings and external installations.
The -J suffix means one of the three cores is a green/yellow protective conductor. The other two are brown and blue. Conductors are solid (class 1) plain copper, and the tough black PVC outer sheath is flame retardant to IEC/EN 60332-1-2. The cable has no armour, so where mechanical protection is needed it should be run in duct, conduit or trunking.

Yes the NYY cables are required to meet the UK wiring rules BS7671 for burial in the ground, they must be installed in a conduit or duct to offer mechanical protection.
Manufacturers list NYY-J as suitable for underground use, but it has no armour. Current wiring regulations generally require buried cables to have an earthed armour or metal sheath, or to be installed in a conduit or duct that gives equivalent mechanical protection, laid at a suitable depth and marked. For UK and Irish installations, run NYY-J in suitable ducting when burying it.
It depends on the installation method, such as in air, in duct, or in the ground, as well as grouping, ambient or ground temperature and soil conditions. Use the manufacturer's current rating tables with the appropriate correction factors, and check them against the design approach in BS 7671 Appendix 4. Also check voltage drop over the length of the run.
NYY-J includes a green/yellow protective conductor, so a 3-core NYY-J has brown, blue and green/yellow cores, suitable for single-phase circuits with an earth. NYY-O has no green/yellow core and is used where the protective conductor is provided separately. Make sure the core identification matches the circuit and your installation's earthing arrangement.
