Fuses
Fuses are protective devices containing a calibrated element that melts and breaks the circuit when current exceeds a safe level. Our range covers Deta plug top fuses from 2A to 13A, Lawson consumer unit fuses for older cartridge boards, Lawson 80A house service fuses, 63A Neozed D02 fuses and Lucy Zodion Titan single fuse cut-outs.
Trade pricing comes with a Meteor account, and in-stock fuses ordered before 5pm Monday to Friday can be on site the next working day anywhere in NI and the Republic.
Finding the right fuse
Fuses come in many shapes and sizes, and the correct replacement is always the same type and rating as the original unless the circuit design changes. Start by identifying where the fuse is used.
Fuse categories
- Plug top fuses - small cartridge fuses fitted in 13A plugs and fused connection units.
- Consumer unit fuses - cartridge fuses for older fuse boards that pre-date circuit breakers.
- Cut-out fuses - house service fuses and single fuse cut-outs at the supply intake or in street furniture.
- Neozed fuses - screw-in D type fuse links used in Neozed switch fuses.
What to check
Match the physical size, the current rating and the fuse characteristic. A fuse that looks similar can have a different breaking capacity or speed of operation, so read the markings on the original before ordering. For plug top fuses, the rating should suit the appliance and its flex, following the manufacturer's guidance.
Safety advice
Never replace a blown fuse with a higher rating or bypass it, as this removes the protection for the cable. Isolate the supply before changing any fuse that is not in a plug, and investigate the cause if a fuse blows repeatedly. Service fuses at the supply intake are normally the responsibility of the network operator. When older fuse boards are being replaced, current wiring regulations generally lead to a modern consumer unit with MCBs, RCDs or RCBOs.
