Choosing industrial plugs, sockets and switches

Key specs to check
Start with voltage and colour: yellow for 110V site tools, blue for 230V single phase and red for 400V three phase. Then confirm the number of poles (3, 4 or 5), the current rating and the IP rating. Interlocked sockets add a switch that cannot be turned on until a plug is inserted, and the plug cannot be removed while the supply is on, which improves safety on high-current outlets. Wall inlets let a building or unit receive power from an external source such as a generator.
Installation and safety
Fix wall sockets securely, with cable entries sealed by suitable glands to maintain the IP rating.
