20mm and 25mm round PVC conduit are the most common sizes for domestic and light commercial work, with 32mm and above used for larger cable groups. The size depends on the number and size of cables – BS 7671 guidance uses cable factors to make sure cables can be drawn in without damage and are not packed too tightly.
What is the difference between round and oval conduit?
Round PVC conduit is used for surface runs and carries cables in a fully enclosed, protected route. Oval conduit is flatter and is mainly used to protect cable drops buried in plaster or chased into walls, for example down to sockets and switches.
Can PVC conduit be used outdoors?
Heavy-gauge PVC conduit is commonly used outdoors and on site, but it must be properly supported and protected from mechanical damage. Use suitable sealed fittings and glands where it enters enclosures, and allow for expansion on long runs exposed to temperature changes.
Do you sell 3-metre lengths of conduit?
Yes. Rigid PVC conduit is supplied in 3-metre lengths, which we deliver across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland on our own transport. 3-metre lengths cannot be sent to mainland UK because of courier restrictions, and orders containing them under £100 / €100 carry a £40 / €40 delivery charge.
