Cable Trays & Baskets
Cable trays and cable baskets are open containment systems that carry and support runs of cable along walls, ceilings and risers while keeping them ventilated and easy to access. Our range includes Marshall-Tufflex medium duty tray from 50mm to 300mm wide in 3m lengths, with matching flat bends, equal tees and couplers, plus Unistrut medium and heavy duty 600mm tray.
Supports include top hat brackets, Deligo top hat brackets with cage nuts, basket to strut clips and 41x41mm slotted channel. Order at trade prices and receive in-stock items next working day throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
How to choose cable tray and basket
Choosing containment for a commercial or industrial job starts with the cable load, the environment and how the run will be supported. Tray and basket both leave cables exposed for cooling and inspection, but each has its strengths.
Matching the system to the job
- Medium duty perforated tray suits most commercial runs of power and data cable, and is easy to cut and bend on site.
- Heavy duty tray handles larger cable bundles and longer spans in plant rooms and industrial sites.
- Wire basket is lightweight and fast to install, popular for data and low-voltage cabling above suspended ceilings.
Sizing and fittings
Calculate the total cross-sectional area of the cables and allow spare capacity for future additions, then pick a width that avoids overfilling. Use factory flat bends and equal tees in the same width so the bend radius protects cable sheaths and keeps the run looking consistent. Couplers and connector bolts join lengths securely and maintain earth continuity across metal sections.
Supporting the run
Tray is typically supported on top hat brackets fixed to the wall or to strut channel and accessories on threaded rod drops. Follow the manufacturer's recommended support spacing for the tray width and load. Where cables leave the tray to drop into equipment, consider flexible conduit for the final connection, and use cable ties to keep runs neat. Metal tray should be bonded where required, so check current wiring regulations and the project specification.
