Boxes & Enclosures
Electrical boxes and enclosures are housings that protect wiring connections, accessories and equipment from damage, dust and moisture, from flush back boxes behind sockets to weatherproof adaptable boxes outdoors. This section brings together steel back boxes from Zahler, PVC surface and dry lining boxes, junction boxes from Wiska and Deligo, and IP56 weatherproof enclosures.
You will also find galvanised adaptable boxes, Tricel exterior telephone boxes and Olympic Fixings telescopic box mounting brackets. Trade account holders pay trade prices, and in-stock orders placed by 5pm are on our vans or with DPD for next working day delivery across NI and ROI.
Finding the right box or enclosure
Almost every electrical installation needs a box of some kind, whether it is hidden in a wall behind a switch or mounted on an external wall to protect a connection. The range is split into several groups to help you find the right one quickly.
What is in this section
- Steel back boxes for flush switches and sockets in masonry walls, in 1 and 2 gang and depths up to 47mm.
- Dry lining and PVC surface boxes for plasterboard partitions and surface-mounted accessories.
- Junction boxes for joining cables on lighting and power circuits, including weatherproof versions.
- Galvanised and PVC enclosures and adaptable boxes for conduit systems, outdoor terminations and industrial use.
- Meter and telephone boxes for external service entries.
Choosing by location
Start with the wall or surface. Solid walls take steel flush boxes, hollow partitions need dry lining boxes, and surface work uses PVC pattress boxes. Outdoors or in wet areas, choose an enclosure with a suitable IP rating such as IP55 or IP56, and seal every entry with glands or grommets. Telescopic mounting brackets fixed between studs or joists provide a firm base for boxes in ceilings and timber frames.
Material and safety considerations
Metal boxes give robust mechanical protection but must be earthed, while PVC boxes resist corrosion and are quick to fit. Allow enough internal space for the number of cables and terminations, and keep connections accessible where required. Check current wiring regulations and the manufacturer's instructions for the specific application.
