Use a dimmer system to create atmosphere
Although a home's lighting system serves an important purpose - namely, to provide illumination for the tasks and activities going on within it - it can also offer plenty in the way of atmosphere and aesthetic.
Choosing LED light bulbs in warm, soft colours and wiring them up to a dimmer system could be the ultimate in luxury, according to an interior designer.
Cathryn Bishop, founder of Cornish Interiors, said a dimmer control system will cost more than a basic dimmer switch but it is a great way to create atmosphere as you can choose the amount of light to suit your mood and the time of day.
"The LED market is changing quickly," she pointed out.
"A reputable lighting showroom will be able to advise you on the latest options available and provide useful tips on how to incorporate LED lighting into your home. When having electrical work done in your home, always use a competent electrician who is registered with a recognised trade organisation."
Meanwhile, a tower block in Northampton is to light up its exterior in red, white and blue LED bulbs today (November 12th) to mark the 30th anniversary of the Queen officially opening it.
The 127-metre National Lift Tower will be illuminated from sunset today as part of the town's diamond jubilee celebrations, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo reported.
Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of the local council, told the newspaper: "The landmark tower can be seen for miles and we wanted to mark this historic anniversary during the Queen's diamond jubilee year.
"During the evening the colours of the Union Jack will light up the tower and we hope lots of people will pop along and see the display," he added.
If you're looking to create your own electric display, try the Blue LED Rectangular Wall Light from Meteor Electrical, which features 36 separate bulbs and emits a cool blue light.
