This summer take care while considering doing any DIY this summer! If you're planning some DIY don't end up a statistic. Every year there are around 70 deaths and 250,000 serious injuries related to DIY work, with many of them taking place over the summer period.
Here are just a few tips to help keep you safe over the summer period;
· If you were out on the lash the night before celebrating with the leds, your concentration will be lacking making you more prone to accidents
· Make sure you have planned the job in advance so that you can have all safety precautions accessed.
· Make sure you are aware of your surroundings – this means checking for any electrical/ plumbing services around you.
· Don’t rush a job just to get it finished
· Only use tools that you can handle and have experience using
· Don’t overreach on a ladder or stand in an unbalance position
· Always use Safety guards supplied with your power tools and check on a regular basis that they are working accordingly.
· Do not use tools for any job they weren’t designed for - For example you must not use a timber saw blade on metal. Maintain a firm but not rigid grip on power tools.
· Disconnect power and wait for all moving parts to be stationary before changing any blades, drills etc.

· Use push sticks instead of your hands to guide timber while cutting where applicable/possible.
· Where possible use jigs and guides with power tools – you and your tools will be safer and your work will be neater.
· Always secure materials you are working on with clamps or a vice etc.
