Spotlight is on the City of Culture yet again
Minister Foster has recently pressed the ‘on’ button for the ‘City of Culture’ in an attempt to try and boost evening tourism and further strengthen the city’s reputation as a top destination in Northern Ireland. The city will be strengthened through the introduction of the ‘Walled City Lighting Strategy’ which will illuminate the Famous City walls as well as 6 major heritage projects.
At the launch event, the Minister said that the strategy will illuminate the past, present and future for the ‘City of Culture’ as a centre piece of tourism in Northern Ireland. The strategy came about from a £1.4 million investment by the Tourism Development Scheme, with the rest provided by other local groups and developments. This will enhance the visual night time appeal for tourism assets such as Aras Colmcille, the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall, the Playhouse, Guildhall and few more with the use of LED Lighting and LED ground lights.
Mayor Reilly stated that the illumination project was a very successful partnership project which has made a significantly positive impact on how the city is seen.
