Panasonic TVs first with catch-up service

Panasonic has been named as the first manufacturer that will launch Freeview’s new catch-up service known as “Freeview Play.” Panasonic have announced that they will make Freeview Play available in their new range throughout 2015, services such as ITV Player and BBC iPlayer will be included.

Freeview Play combines catch-up TV, on-demand services and live television. The service will be free and connection will be easy as the service is compatible with existing broadband providers. Users will be able to search for programmes via a scroll back function in the current television guide or through an app page depending on the television.

In the future Panasonic have announced that they will offer Freeview play recorders while OEM manufacturer Vestel will also launch a range of Freeview Play products.

Guy North, managing director of Freeview, added: “We believe that Freeview Play will put viewers back in control and we’re delighted that Panasonic is our first TV launch partner. Freeview Play will be integrated into a number of TVs in the new Viera range, giving people the freedom to choose across a range of price points. We look forward to welcoming more products from other partners later this year.”
