Household Electrical Safety Tips for the Summer

This Summer Stay Safe Around Your House! The most important thing to remember is that Electricity and Water together is a dangerous and fatal combination. Here are just some safety tips to help ensure that you stay safe over the summer period:

1.       Ensure that all electrical toys and appliances are kept away from water. This means Swimming Pools, Sprinkles, Lakes and Beaches etc.

2.       Remember that Electricity travels very quickly through water and leads to electrocution! – So don not touch an electrical appliance if you’re wet on standing on a wet surface.

3.       Make sure that all major appliances are plugged into grounded outlets and not extension cords. These include appliances such as washers, dryers, air conditioners and many more etc.

4.       Never plug in any appliance that you notice may be faulty or damaged!

5.       Make sure that the electrical connections to your pools or hot tubs are fully grounded

6.       In the event of an emergency, know where your circuit breakers are and how to safely turn them off!

7.       Play with kites, model aircrafts or any other airborne toys in open spaces like parks or fields far away from any power lines

Kids love to go exploring and climbing trees in the summer, however they should never climb trees to close power lines even if the tree isn’t touching as the added weight of someone climbing the tree could cause the branch to touch the line, which would be very dangerous!
