Electric bike recognises rider's fingerprint

A Chinese car company known as Qoros has created an electric bike that has top of the range electronics installed. The bike was shown at the Geneva motor show and has been named as eBiqe.

The bike has been created to show off the company’s Qoros cloud platform which is in nearly all their cars. The cloud platform delivers features and services for the rider such as permanent 3G connection and a touch screen monitor that is attached to the handlebars of the bike.

These two features allow the rider to have ultimate access to maps and route planning where they can monitor their speed and distance over a specific course that they have chosen. The bike also goes one step further where you can check tyre pressure, charge and range so that you will be able to know when the tyres need extra air. The unique model also provides real time updates so that the rider can see upcoming weather reports, traffic figures and the nearest charging point.

The company have tried to make the bike as unique and as different as possible so they have included fingerprint recognition to the bike so that it can recognise one user or multiple users. It is not understood why they have introduced the feature but it is most likely a security feature but like most devices there probably is flaws in the system.

When using the bike users have three options from the menu for their driving mode. The first option is street mode which restricts the speed of the bike to 25km/h, the reason for this is safety so that the bike won’t be considered dangerous in crowded streets. The second option is Eco which maximises energy efficiency and the third option is power which allows the bike to reach a speed of 65 km/h.

Will this bike be popular in the UK in the next few years? Time will tell but the main flaw with the bike is that it only has a charge time of eighty minutes.
