Burglaries on the increase

Burglaries on the increase

Every day when you turn on the news not a day goes by without the report of a burglary or break in at either a home or business. According to reports there has been a 4% increase in domestic burglaries which is worrying as you expect your home to be safe and secure at all times.

There are many different things you can do to keep your mind at ease in terms of home security:

If there are dark spots around your home that have poor visibility consider installing some outdoor lighting such as a floodlight, the more lighting the better it means reducing the chances of someone lurking around your home.

Make sure the locks on doors and windows are secure, and check them before leaving the house. If there is signs of wear and tear consider getting them replaced especially if you have a wooden door as they can rot after so many years making them prone to cracking and chipping.

If you have sliding doors make sure they are always locked as these are the easiest ways for someone to gain entry. Be careful of what equipment you leave outside such as ladders as a burglar could use this to gain access to the second floor especially if they can’t gain access on the ground floor.

If someone calls at your house and you don’t know them personally be wary of the information you tell them, if in doubt do not let them into your home without appropriate identification.

An alarm system is the best deterrent against burglars as it makes them think twice before breaking in as the risk of them getting caught is much higher.

So don’t set a trap for yourself, always remember to check doors and locks and report any suspicious activity!
