Bromley Cross Church gets a new heating system worth £23,000

A church received an early Christmas miracle after being given £23,000 to install a new central heating system. Cornerstone Church, in Lord’s Stile Lane, Bromley Cross, was given a grant coming up to Christmas by the Biffa Awards, which is a multi million fund that awards grants to environmental and community projects across the UK.

The church which was built in 1984 did not have any floor or cavity wall insulation, meaning that the heat was escaping quickly. But now it’s multi-purpose hall has been installed with cavity wall insulation, the floor has been re-carpeted as well a state of the art central heating system installed.

“It has been a tremendous boost to the church and the many visitors who use the Cornerstone throughout the week,” said the Pastor of Cornerstone Church, Lee Banfield. “We are very grateful to the Biffa Awards for their input, without the aid of this grant, the recent transformation would not have been possible,” he further added.

The building, which is used by multiple people for various activities, for example, the Bromley Cross Village Choir, once struggled to reach 17°C however the building can now reach the standard room temperature of 21°. Everyone is looking forward to a warmer Christmas this time around, with Mr. Banfield saying, “For this time of year, the building used to be quite cold. No matter how long we had the heating on, it could never get warm even if we turned the thermostat up. But we now have a lovely warm and welcoming community facility and everybody has noticed the difference in temperature. It’s perfect timing, especially with Christmas around the corner.”

Work to install the new heating system and relay the floors took just over two weeks.

Biffa Award programme manager, Gillian French, said: “We are pleased to support the installation of a new heating system and improved insulation in both the walls and the floor at Cornerstone Baptist Church. This project will greatly benefit this community facility, by improving the comfort and reducing the carbon footprint.”
