ANSI/ASHRAE Helps Industry Professionals Better Meet Its Requirements

ANSI/ASHRAE recently published Standard 62.1-2013, is aimed to assist industry professional in better meeting its requirements. The new standard, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, revises and helps improve the IAQ Standard in several ways. Roger Hedrick briefly says that, “It will provide adequate ventilation airflow while reducing excess ventilation and energy consumer for occupant through designers and building operators having to meet the new requirements.

Some of the significant changes include;

-          Class 1 cleaned Toilet exhaust air may be recirculated

-          The MERV rating has been upgraded to 8 from 6 on air entering wetted cooling coils, reducing potential contamination on the coils

-          Water Quality has been modified for the water used in humidification systems

-          Building level requirements for pressurization are clarified.

-          Modification for increasing the Ventilation effectiveness for underfloor air systems
