Voltage optimisation device wins plaudits at design award show
A unique voltage optimisation system has helped a UK-based manufacturer to win the plaudits at the annual PwC Private Business Awards held this week.
EMSc (UK) Ltd, manufacturers of energy saving solutions and voltage optimisation units, took home the Technology Innovation of the Year award at the annual gala for its Powerstar voltage solution.
Managing director at EMSc (UK) and inventor of the Powerstar Dr Alex Mardapitta said: "We are delighted to have won this award, which recognises our company's forward thinking approach and innovative energy saving solutions.
"We strive to constantly improve our range of solutions and this is fantastic recognition for our team."
The system helps both businesses and domestic homes reduce the power they use around their building, cutting carbon footprints and energy costs while extending the life of electrical equipment - especially important in business.
And the practical application of the system means it's as suitable a solution for commercial contracts as it is for residential work.
Meteor's own range of consumer units offers electrical management and unparalleled safety around the home. The circuit breakers control the distribution of electricity in the case of a fault or damage, shutting off the supply by tripping the fuses when an accident occurs. If your old unit hasn't been replaced for some years and your toaster takes a dislike to you, your consumer unit could be the crucial difference between life and death.
"An RCD (Residual Current Device) is designed to trip the power circuits in less than four-hundredths of a second, which should be quick enough to stop an electric shock from stopping a person's heart," says the Telegraph's resident handyman, Jeff Howell. "Your old wire fuses will take many times longer to burn out, meaning an electric shock that passes across the heart (one hand on a faulty toaster, the other on the kitchen tap, for example) is more likely to be fatal."
