Dublin City Set to Re-vamp Grafton Street Area
There are plans for the Grafton Street Area to be redesigned to contain a shopping quarter which will contain a pedestrian link, LED lighting and street furniture with the removal on-street parking. Dublin city council wants to encourage shoppers to shop around the Grafton Street Quarter by using a €14m investment to improve the area and brighten it up.
A competition will be held for any artist/sculptors to design the street furniture. However, disruption has occurred at the minute as repaving is currently being worked on, which included removing the brick paving and replacing it with natural stone.
The Proposal in which the City Council wishes to carry out is as follows:
- Road resurfacing to have a pedestrian link between Grafton Street and South Great George’s Street
- Pedestrian priority on Wicklow Street
- Use of ground lights and units on Clarendon Street
- Lights to be changed to energy saving LEDs
