£600,000 boost for electric cars in Northern Ireland

Electric car drivers across Northern Ireland will benefit from a £9 million scheme that will encourage more car owners to make the switch. Many potential customers have been put off from electric vehicles as they feel that there are not enough charging points and it would be a hassle to drive around looking for a charging station. However there will be over £600,000 spent on the installation of new charging points across Northern Ireland.

One hundred extra charge points will be set in place at hospitals, health trusts, libraries and local council offices; this will bring the charging points to over 500 across the North of Ireland.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: "This is a very significant boost for our growing e-car infrastructure in Northern Ireland. With electric cars costing from just 2p a mile to run, drivers have an ever increasing range of options when considering the type of car they choose to drive."

As more and more car manufacturers are adding new electric vehicles to their range the choice for potential customers has never been greater therefore now is the prime time to make a purchase.

Electric cars mean that there will be less emissions into the atmosphere as their will be no need for fossil fuels to power vehicles. This positive change to the environment will change the climate for the better including improving air quality and noise pollution.
