Door entry kits and Camera to be added to Schools in Westerville City

There will be a new line of security for visitors entering the buildings of any Westerville City School. The district has decided to move forward with a plan to install door entry kits with CCTV camera’s covering all 22 school buildings entrances, before the Christmas break.

The plan was decided to help improve the schools safety within the district, during the proposal two elements were involved in doing so, the first being the door entry kit and the second being communications between all the schools districts and local emergency services.

Greg Viebranz, mentioned in order to receive the state dollars they must first be eligible, submitting all necessary paperwork expressing that funds will be applied for each building in the district. When this has been done then the only thing that is left to be determined is to see if it will be funded or denied.

John Kellogg, superintendent mentioned that the project is worth while even if the state funding is not secure as it allows them to enhance the security of the buildings helping them focus on what is needed to give better security.

There will be a time set each day where all the doors will be locked meaning that any visitor will have to be ‘buzzed’ in, and it will be decided by staff if permission will be given for them to gain access through the front door. There will be procedures which will have to be met upon entering for any admitting visitors, with an escort to bring them to and from their destination.
