The latest attempt to disguise weapons is by using common devices such as mobile phones, laptops and other popular items.

The latest discovery was in Manchester when a fourteen year old boy disguised a stun gun inside a mobile phone. Police stated that the weapon was concealed in what appeared to be a black iPhone and the device emitted strong electric shocks when pressed. One officer who attempted to examine the device was shocked but not seriously hurt.

A knife was also seized during the search after four teenagers were reported to be threating a bus driver in the city centre.

Greater Manchester Police said the fake smartphone has a silver strip along the top with two electrical points, from which the current is discharged. The device was activated by pressing the volume button along the side of the phone.

GMP said four male youths, which also included a 16-year-old and two aged 17, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article and a racially-aggravated public order offence.

The other three were held on suspicion of racially-aggravated public order offences.
