New app allows electricians to take care of paperwork while on the job

Electricians are set to benefit from a new iPad app that will allow them to spend more time fixing switches and sockets or troubleshooting wiring problems rather than having to bother with tiresome paperwork.

Developed in partnership with the software company Click, the new initiative from the electrical contracting excellence group (NICEIC) will allow electricians to download a number of certificates onto their tablets.

These include the NICEIC Domestic Electrical Condition Report and the Domestic Electrical Installation Report, with more to be rolled out over the coming months.

This means that tradesmen and women will be able to import either blank or part-completed templates onto their apps, fill them in there and then and either upload them onto a server right away or do so as soon as they are able to get online, with this all expected to be much more time efficient than the old way of printing off certificates and filling them in by hand.

Additionally, the technology means that electricians will be able to email certificates to customers as PDFs, thereby enabling them to sign off work from a remote site.

Launching the initiative, Click managing director Geoff Adams said: "We are proud to be an NICEIC partner and have worked with them to create the new iPad app to make the working day easier for electrical contractors.

"This app allows certificates to be completed on site using a handy tablet device."

This launch comes as the NICEIC undertakes a major new advertising campaign geared towards boosting public understanding of its role and promoting the use of its services among both contractors and public consumers.

Over the coming weeks, the professional body's adverts, within which its logo will be prominent, will be appearing in a number of national consumer publications as well as in trade magazines.
