Electric Ireland in ?100k green energy deal with Voya

Electric Ireland has won a contract worth €100,000 to supply green energy to Voya. Yoya is a cosmetic supplier that produces and exports organic seaweed around the world.

The contract will involve Electric Ireland providing around 8 GWh Energy to the company, which also has premises in the UK and US.

The electricity is from all renewable energy sources such as hydro and wind, the reason behind this is so that it keeps in with Voya’s natural products and company ethos.

Cosmetic scientist Mark Walton and his graphic designer wife Kira launched the company back in 2007 as a spin out from the families’ seaweed baths which is based in Strandhill, Co Sligo.

"As a company the environment and energy efficiency are high on our agenda. We work hard on our carbon footprint, and try to be environmentally aware in everything we do including recycling our seaweed, and using only biodegradable plastic,” said Neil Walton, managing director at Voya Seaweed Baths.

“We look for the same commitment to energy efficiency in our business partners.”

Employing around 20 people, key to the company’s success has been its rapid international expansion, according to Mark Walton. It currently exports to over 36 countries globally, including the UK, and many countries within the Middle East, Far East, and Continental Europe.

“With the world’s leading luxury spa properties scrambling to offer Voya’s hand-harvested seaweed treatments, we have been able to secure a veritable ‘who’s-who’ line up of clients.
