Choosing busbars and board accessories

The right busbar keeps connections short and neat, carries current safely between devices and makes a board easier to inspect. Accessories such as earth bars, blanking strips and lock off kits complete the job.

Pin or fork type?

  • Pin type - the busbar has pins that drop into the device terminals, suiting most modern MCBs and RCBOs.
  • Fork type - the busbar has forked ends that slide around the terminal screw, used with devices designed for fork connection.

Check your breakers' terminal design and the manufacturer's recommendation before choosing.

Number of poles

Use single pole busbars for single-phase boards with single pole devices, double pole for devices switching line and neutral, and triple pole for three phase boards. Dedicated RCBO busbars, such as the Garo 1 module DPN version, suit specific RCBO ranges.

Other accessories

  • Earth and neutral bars - clip-on terminal bars to add extra connection points.
  • Blanking strips - cover unused ways to prevent access to live parts.
  • Contractor lock off kit - padlocks a device in the off position during safe isolation.

Installation notes

Cut busbars only where the manufacturer allows, fit end caps or shrouds to cut ends, and make sure every pin or fork is fully seated before tightening terminals to the stated torque. Busbars should be compatible with the devices on your board, so pair them with our MCBs, RCBOs and TP&N switchgear. Always follow current wiring regulations.
