The summer is over and now we are entering the cold winter, which can cause many students to turn up their thermostat, and bask in the heat until the bill comes or the oil runs out. So here are just a quick few alternatives in which you can use in order to keep warm as well as helping you to save money.

Insulation – Of course as a student you won’t know how well your house is insulated however you can do your bit by checking all windows and doors are closed properly, cover any gaps that there may be to ensure that cold draughts cannot enter the house.

Electric Heaters – Although it isn’t the most economical appliance for heating all bedrooms in the house but individually it can be a quick way to heat a living room which everyone uses for a short period of time.

Hot Water Bottles – You should never have the heating on at night, although tempting if someone has stole the duvet or you feel like a block of ice, however a cheap solution is get a hot water bottle which can help make all the difference.

Hot Drinks – Although they don’t heat all the body they do keep your mouth warm and in doing so keeps the rest of your body warm by using the placebo effect, although only boil as much as you need.

Go to the Library – Use the library to revise instead of your home. If you are paying the tuition fees, why not make use of the heating and electricity which the university has to offer.
