Different types of lights explained

With homes constantly changing their lighting to suit updated décor or to improve security around the home it is best to have a good understanding of what some of the lights are for.

PIR LED floodlight

A PIR floodlight is also known as a passive infra-red floodlight as it reacts to motion through its motion sensor. Depending on the brand or model will depend on the sensor coverage but it usually picks up between 8-12 meters. The main reason why people choose to have these lights in their home is to combat against burglars as lighting tends to stop attacks as they prefer dark yards to keep themselves hidden.

Metal Halide Floodlight

A metal halide floodlight is a strong durable floodlight that is commonly used by industrial businesses or businesses with large storage yards. The reason for this choice of lighting for many business owners is that they are extremely durable and have a strong light beam which acts as a good deterrent against criminals. There are many different types available depending on the area needing to be illuminated, for example the wattage of the light would be different for a business yard and a football pitch.

Ground Light

Ground lights are a common form of lighting for lighting up the façade of your home or for brightening up a dark path. There is again lots of different types of grounds lights all specific for different purposes, for example to light up a building a metal halite would be used but if you wanted to light up a drive way a marker light would be a better option.  (Example in picture to the right)

Bollard Light

Bollard lighting is known for being an outdoor light that is often mounted on short units. If you are taking a walk through your local town centre or city you will defiantly see these lights as they are often seen lighting up steps or illuminating the streets. These lights come in many different shapes and sizes depending on what they are required to do, for example a short bollard would be used to highlight a dark path and a fixed bollard would be used to direct light down an entry.

GU10 downlights

GU10 downlighters are lights that are most commonly seen in the ceiling of homes, these lights are used in conjunction with springs to keep the lights forced into a certain position. These lights come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on what your personal preference is of course.
