Syria Left in Darkness after Power Outage

An explosion close to the international airport left the capital Damascus along with much of Syria in Darkness on Wednesday evening.

It is believed to have been a ‘terrorists’ attack on gas pipelines, which  produce the country’s electricity, however repairs have been underway since the explosion and hope to have electricity running soon. At the minute they are heavily relying on the use of generators to get lighting throughout the city.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK based activist group stated in was caused by artillery strikes fired by the rebels aimed several miles from the airport at the town Ghasula,  with a local resident from Damascus quoting the “entire city went dark.”

Rebels, have been trying for several months to get into the capital in an attempt to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, with millions been dispatched in the civil war and more than 90,000 people killed since February 2011.
