Improve Your Home Security This Year

Are you thinking about a DIY project to kick off the year? If so, maybe you should consider home security, why wait until after a break in before doing something. Get ahead of things by making these few simple adjustments:

Landscaping

Criminals love to lurk in the shadows, so why not eliminate any of those potential hiding spots closest to you house by trimming overgrown trees and scrubs. In saying this, you probably do not want to have a completely bare lawn so why not decorate it with garden lighting and strategically placed flood lights.

Reinforce Your Doors

A burglar can easily access you house with a few kicks if your door is weak. To prevent this you should add a layer of protection to your entryways by adding either a door guard plate to help strengthen the door itself, but probably the best improvement you can make is the door jam reinforcement.

Strengthen your windows

Windows are the most common entry place for a burglar to gain access; usually a brick or a pipe of some sort will make quick work of most windows unless it has been protected with a smash-proof coating. This is basically a protective film which is placed over the window like a sticker which will hold the glass together even if the pane has been cracked. Will also help act a line of defense during extreme weather.

Install CCTV Cameras

CCTV Cameras are nothing new; however they are becoming more accessible allowing live streaming on your phone and tablet. This means that even when away from home you can check on status of your home and if any problem arises phone your neighbour to check it out. These devices will help catch the burglar in the act as well as those petty thieves that steal packages off your front door step.
