Decorative Lighting

Decorative lighting today is a common feature in most households as it adds a touch of class and can become a feature to a room quite easily, for example a glass chandelier.  Depending on the type of light will depend on the functionality of the light as some are only designed to look decorative such as Christmas lights, these lights rarely add much light to a room.  Of course there are other types of decorative lights that serve the purpose of decoration as well as providing sufficient light to a room such as lamps and ceiling lights as well as switches.

When people go out to choose lights for their home they are more than likely going to be drawn to decorative lighting as it can add value to their home. Rather than opting for functional lighting that is designed purely to offer lots of light to a room such as under cabinet lights that are not appealing but do their job of providing sufficient light in the cabinet. Another example if fluorescent lighting fixtures that are used in offices and business buildings as they are primarily needed to provide adequate amounts of light for the office workers rather than providing an appealing look.

The most common type of decorative lighting is lamps such as freestanding floor lamps or table lamps. These lamps can range in price from relatively cheap to extremely expensive depending on what exactly the home owner wants. Typically lamps with glass shades are much more expensive than fabric shades as they cost more to make and are less common. A range of lamps within a room can add interest to a room for a small price.

Recessed lighting is a common choice for home lighting although this is a light that is seen as a functional light rather than a decorative light. You can maintain adequate lighting in the same way through a chandelier which provides a lot of light.

Decorative lighting is not limited to indoors as there are plenty of exterior lights that are designed specifically for the garden. For example ground lights could be installed to illuminate a garden pathway so it can be seen easily at night. There are usually two options with these lights they can be hard wired into the home or if this is not an option solar lamps are available so that they are illuminated with the sun as they contain a small solar panel and a photocell so that they can charge up during the day.
