A 32 year old woman has pleaded guilty to theft of two televisions, a kettle, a toaster, a Panini machine, a vacuum cleaner, a DVD player, a portable DVD player, a George Foreman grill, an iron and two coats from the supermarket.

On the 12th of January the manager of the store noticed that two televisions were unaccounted for and decided to check the CCTV footage. While he was watching the tapes he saw the woman entering the store at 10.30am.

The woman placed the televisions along with other electrical items into her trolley and proceeded to leave the store without paying for the goods. The woman came back into the store once again and repeated the same process, some of these items were recovered by local police but it is believed that the other uncovered goods were sold on.

The woman defended herself by telling the court that she was working for a women’s centre and the local probation service but she relapsed from a drug addiction a year ago and all her actions had resulted from that.  She went on to say that she had no money as her benefits had stopped and needed to make some money in another way.

Bench chairman Dr Hazel Padfield said: “It is a serious matter.

“A lot of goods were taken and some were not recovered. We have heard how much you owe to the court and we will not be making an order for costs because of your means.”
