Thermostats & Timers

Thermostats and timers are an essential part of every home system these days – whether wall-mounted electric heater with timer and thermostat or boiler-mounted; they serve the purpose of regulating the temperature of a household.

The primary function of a thermostat timer is its controls being used to regulate the temperature in a heating system. It allows you to set a preferred temperature and the thermostat timer will then keep the room at that particular desired level. For example, if the temperature drops, then a thermostat timer will switch the heating on to warm it up again.

A timer with a thermostat comes with various useful features and options such as being wireless and battery-operated, being connected with wires to the boiler itself, and being programmable so that a schedule can be set to run the heating at certain times of the day. At Meteor, you can find a wide range of thermostat timers such as Digital Room Thermostat, Basic Room Thermostat, and Choice Pipe and Cylinder Thermostat, WiFi controlled fused spurs, among many more.

Our large selection of timers and heating controls is sure to offer you the perfect solution to ensure the heat is properly regulated throughout your home. This category features leading manufacturer Timeguard which is one of the most reputable producers of timer and heat control products.

How to Set a Thermostat Timer

When dealing with a wall-mounted electric heater with a timer and thermostat, make sure it is located in an area within the home with a fresh flow of air.

If the thermostat timer is placed in a location that is too sunny (like behind a curtain), it won’t be able to sense the room temperature as accurately. On the first use, it is preferable to set the thermostat timer to the lowest possible temperature that you find comfortable; anywhere between 18 to 21 degrees is reasonable.

If you are facing colder days, it won’t be necessary to manually adjust the timer with a thermostat to increase the heating – the thermostat timer should be able to react on its own and will switch on and off automatically when deemed necessary. What you should do instead is tune the electric timer to switch the heating on earlier if you anticipate a colder day is about to come.

Types of Thermostat Timer

There are four types of thermostat timers, and they include non-programmable, programmable, WiFi, and smart – smart thermostat timer are the most energy-efficient choice that provides the best indoor comfort.

Non-Programmable Thermostat

If the user is rarely away from home, then a non-programmable thermostat is a good option to choose because the temperature can simply be manually adjusted according to preference. It is a basic device that allows you to change the indoor temperature of a space by adjusting the settings.

There is no option to pre-program the thermostat to change the temperature when the user is away or sleeping, but this device can still achieve high energy efficiency levels by communicating with the heating system to maintain a set temperature preference.

Programmable Thermostat Timer

A programmable timer with a thermostat can be pre-programmed to switch on and off and adjust the temperature during the day or night time. Most programmable thermostat timer devices can have both daily and weekly settings.

If the user is away for a certain number of days, the pre-programming function can be used to keep the indoor space of the household at a moderate temperature. This will allow the heating system to not unnecessarily work hard to heat the home, and it decreases the chances of wear and tear on the unit which also saves energy bills, repair, and maintenance costs.

In areas where people tend to face drastic temperature changes, the programmable thermostat timer device will be the best choice because of how the temperature can be programmed instead of being set manually every single time.

WiFi Thermostat Timer

A WiFi timer with the thermostat that is connected to a wireless network. This advanced system allows you to access the network via a smartphone, computer, or tablet device through which you can adjust and pre-programme the temperature.

There is an ultimate convenience with how the user can override a preprogrammed temperature setting in any case scenario. At the same time, a WiFi thermostat timer is ideal for users who want to have full control over their house’s temperature setting whether they are inside the house or away from it.

Smart Thermostat Timer

A smart thermostat timer device can easily integrate with various home automation tools and equipment and provides the ultimate level of convenience despite its hefty price tag.

Over time, the smart timer with the thermostat learns the user’s learning habits and adjusts the temperature accordingly without any manual interference. The more common patterns are repeated, the more information it can store and achieve maximum levels of heating and cooling efficiency.

Another advantage of a smart heating time switch is how many come with voice control features and are compatible with services such as Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

The smart thermostat timer is the best choice for households that are advanced in the realm of tech as just like other smart devices, it can be accessed through any device that has internet connection compatibility. A smart timer with a thermostat can even alert you when it’s time to schedule HVAC maintenance.

How Does a Central Heating Time Switch Work?

A central heating time switch allows you to set the time when the central heating turns on and off. Some of the electric timers have two various sets of switches where one is for setting the heating in the morning hours and one is for the evenings.

There are two forms of heating time switch that are available – analogue and digital. With an analogue heating time switch, buttons and a dial are used to set the system. A mechanical analogue thermostat controls the temperature using two bits of metal that are laminated together in the thermostat timer’s sensor in a bimetallic strip.

The various metals expanding and contracting because of the temperate changes lead the electric circuit connected to the heating system to be switched on and off, allowing it to read and regulate heat efficiently.

A digital heating time switch on the other hand will have an LED display. A digital timer with the thermostat will have internal components that are capable of providing an accurate and responsive action to whatever the current room temperature is.

The electronic sensors within them read the current indoor temperature and can fine-tune the heating accordingly, keeping the room within a single degree of the target setting.

Since a heating time switch does the work for you, there won’t be any need to turn the heating on or off automatically after setting the desired time. Moreover, a central heating switch is a cost-effective solution and is capable of reducing your utility bills by a large margin. The reason for this is that the heating can be turned off automatically when no one is at home.
